Module Learning Outcome
1. Understand and apply the methods employed in, and the constraints and requirements imposed on, the development and use of computing systems within an organisation.
2. Exercise professional judgement based on an understanding of both technical and non-technical issues relevant to the development and use of computing based systems in an organisation.
3. Understand the need for, and develop proper, professional inter-personal relationships.
4. Relate the practices of a real organisation to the principles and concepts of computing.
5. Comply with the work discipline and legitimate expectations of an organisation.

This module will also give you the opportunity to demonstrate the following skills:

Module Indicative Content
To provide practical experience of working within and for an organisation.
To experience at first hand the practical application of some of the computing theory and methods in Level 1 and 2.
To develop appropriate behaviour attitudes within the work environment.
To provide practical experience in the legal, social and ethical issues of working within an organisation.
To apply and further develop communication and decision making skills.
Module Learning Strategies
Besides undertaking their agreed work students will develop their learning from:-
general relevant technical material;
the use of various software packages, programming languages, equipment and software technologies;
the experience of working to targets usually in a managed team.
Module Additional Assessment Details
To pass a student must have:

1. Completed, normally, 48 weeks of relevant work experience (32 weeks for Bridging course students).
2. Achieved at least 40% in the placement report.
3. Achieved an aggregate mark of 40% or more.

Where the aggregate mark achieved by a student is >= 40%, but either of the pass criteria 1. or 2. above are not fulfilled, then the grade point recorded will be a 3.

This module cannot be compensated.

Work experience - Employer report - mark given by student's line manager for placement - (1, 2, 3, 5, a-r).
Visit report - mark given by tutor who visits student - (1-5, c, e, h, l, m, q, r).
Report - mark given for report on placement written by student - (1-4, c, e, f, l, m).
