Module Indicative Content
This module introduces students to fundamental ideas relating to mechanical technology:-
- Free body diagram, physical systems of units.
- Newtons 2nd law - application to different problems, scalar and vector quantities, balancing problems.
- Basic introduction to vibration problems.
- Bending stress due to bending.
- Shear stress due to bending.
- Beam deflection analysis using 'standard' formulae and commercial software.
- Torsion.
Module Additional Assessment Details
1 x 2hr class test (50%) which will assess Learning Outcome 1.
1 x Written report 2000 words (50%) which will assess Learning Outcome 2.
