A portfolio of hand and CAD drawings worth 50% (which will assess Learning Outcomes 1, 2)

A design project assignment worth 50% (which will assess Learning Outcome 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6)
Module Indicative Content
Methods of illustration and communication of ideas
Sketching and projection systems
Drawing to BS 8888 - dimensioning, tolerancing (dimensional and geometric), sectional views, assembly drawing, graphical layout
Use of a 2D CAD package to present engineering drawings
Comparison and selection of manufacturing processes
Basic design project management techniques
Module Learning Strategies
12 x 3 hours lectures - Lectured topics illustrated with videos, case studies and critical appraisal of existing artefacts and designs. Assessment will be via assignments in drawing, design and reverse engineering.
Module Resources
Drawing boards, a 2D CAD package, a reverse engineering product, basic workshop and laboratory facilities
