1. An online 1 hour 15 min. practical test using Excel and PASW weighted at 50%. (Learning outcomes 2, 3 and 4)
2. An online 1 hour 15 min. exam weighted at 50% (Learning outcomes 1, 2 and 4)
A sample of students may be selected for oral examinations on any of the assessments.
Module Indicative Content
Students will meet mathematics and statistics that will support core studies in computing and will include an introduction to a statistical package, PASW. Statistics topics covered will include graphical representation of data, averages and measures of dispersion, simple probability and the Normal distribution. The mathematical content will include applied algebra, numeracy and number systems.
An introduction to spreadsheets including formatting, absolute and relative addresses, built-in spreadsheet functions and graphs.
Appropriate integration of the Mathematical content with Excel will also be covered.
Module Learning Strategies
On-line resources will demonstrate and explain mathematical and statistical concepts and techniques and will be supplemented by integrated exercises to provide an opportunity to practise the techniques and help reinforce understanding.
On-line practical tutorials in the use of Excel and the statistical package PASW will be provided.
