A set of lab reports 50%, assessing learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3
A manufactured artefact 50%, assessing learning outcomes 1 and 4
Module Indicative Content
During Semester one students will cover
1. Basic Dimensional Measurements. Use of SI units
2. Basic Electrical Power Measurements. Analogue and digital measurement
3.Temperature Measurements.
4. Pressure & Flow Measurements
5. Force and Power Measurements
6. Velocity / Speed / acceleration and Frequency Measurements
7. Data Loggers manipulation of data
8. Sound Measurements
9. Calibration and Errors
10. Academic Skills, e.g. Studying, report writing, presentations, researching, referencing, interpreting data, individual and group work.
During Semester two
1. Gain an understanding of Health and safety within a workshop environment
2. Use machines and other workshop processes to gain experience and skills through focussed practical tasks leading to the manufacture of an artefact with attention to quality, accuracy and detail
3. Identifying and controlling hazards, management of health and safety. Compliance with general legislation and communication. Inspection of the work place.
