1 x 2.5-hour class test (50%) which will assess Learning Outcome 1. 10 minute reading time will be given before the commencement of the timed examinations.
1 x written report 3,000 words (50%) which will assess Learning Outcome 2.

Mechanics - Units & Prefixes, Newton's Laws of Motion, Free body diagrams, Stress / Strain Relationships and Hooke's Law, Solid Body Statics, Friction, Work & Energy Equations, Impulse and Momentum, rectilinear and curvilinear motion (projectiles).

Fluid definitions and properties. Pressure and velocity and flow. Conservation of mass, energy and momentum applied to fluids. . Flow and pressure measurement. Pipe flow and fluid power. Buoyancy and stability of floating bodies.
