INDICATIVE CONTENT
Design Methodology - Developing a design specification, Concept generation, concept selection and management of the design process.
Design Communication - Gain and understanding of the way that design practitioners communicate the design intent to other professionals through simple sketches and engineering drawings including details such as dimensional tolerances, geometric tolerance and surface finish etc.
Design skills -Reading a technical drawing. Dimensioning and tolerancing techniques. 2D CAD - creating and editing geometry, annotating drawings. Compliance with BS8888
Solid Modelling - Defining datums, sketching, basic 3D shape creation using extrude, revolve sweep etc. Shape modifiers including round, chamfer, and shell. Basic assembly of components.
The Design Function in the Workplace
Management of the creative process. Integration, management and control of design property.
The broader context of design- Design for X, (Sustainability, Manufacture and assembly etc), the role of design in leaning
