ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Specific assessments will be contextualised to reflect the context of relevant practical workplace or employer delivery

Written (LO1,2,3,4):
For this assessment students will assess the effect of a given estimating technique on the selection of a procurement method for a major project. They will define and explain what constitutes as a tender, prepare and justify and estimate of cost for a given scenario by applying a range of measurement techniques. They will also compare the results of different estimation techniques on the cost for a given work activity in a major project.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The aim of this module is to provide students with the appropriate knowledge in order to allow them to select a procurement route and an appropriate tendering method in the awarding of a project to a main contractor. Students will look at cost control and the consequences of not working within budget to large scale projects.

Students will gain knowledge of how to prepare a tender package in procuring a contractor for a client’s work and how to present this information in meetings. Students will need to be clear on the expectations of communication during the tendering process, taking into account the legal implications of insufficient communication.

They will be introduced to numerous procurement methods that are available to achieve this: from open to closed systems.
Topics included within this module indicatively cover the following:
• Tendering constraints and information,
• The documentation needed to send out a tender,
• The factors that affect procurement, and
• The procurement methods that can be used to select a contractor

Within the contracting process students will also look at: Design and build contracts. Constructing Excellence contracts. Construction management contracts. Intermediate form of building contracts. Management building contracts: Measured term contracts. Agreement for minor work. Prime cost building contracts, major cost building contracts, repair and maintenance contracts and standard build contracts as further considerations for the tendering process.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
A package of lectures and practical sessions:
Lectures will introduce key topics and concepts with tutor-assisted practical sessions. In the practical sessions you will get hands-on experience of the principles taught in the lectures. Academic learning will be achieved through reading around the subject area. Module tutors will suggest useful texts, though many others will be suitable and can be found in our e-library. If you require help understanding any of the concepts, you may contact your module tutor for assistance.
