- A project proposal weighted at 10% of the total marks covering learning outcomes 3 and 4.
- Oral progress presentation using Powerpoint, questioning and report weighted at 20% of the total marks covering learning outcomes 1 and 2.
- A final presentation and questioning at a formal project conference weighted at 20% of the total marks covering learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4.
- A 6000 word final project report weighted at 50% of the total marks covering learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Module Indicative Content
- The Work Based Project module provides students with the opportunity to use and develop their specific technology skills, knowledge and experiences.
- The project will be allocated following discussions with the college supervisor, work based mentor and line manager at their company.
- The project will involve an area of development at their company where they can initiate ideas, make risk assessments, review ethical issues, create plans and project manage through to completion.
- Students will be expected to evaluate, analyse and reflect on their self development and the decisions made during the course of the project.
- It is expected that the projects will have an intellectual depth appropriate to a Foundation Degree, where the literature survey shows breadth as well as variety of sources to include internet, journals and books on a chosen subject.
- Students will be expected to drawn on experiences from a range of modules that they have studied or currently studying.
- Students will make presentations and answer questions on project progress and at a final project conference at the end of the course.
- Typical projects might include the following:-
- Design, construction and testing of prototype equipment.
- Implementation of a technology system, involving hardware and/or software.
- Review, analyse and evaluation of a specified technological practice or system.
- Commission a piece of equipment and provide training manuals and written procedures.
Module Learning Strategies
16 x 1.5 hour sessions incorporating lectures, workshops and joint supervisory tutorials. Self tuition through study packs and access to tutor and work-based guidance. It is expected that in-house mentoring will facilitate the learning environment. Additionally you can expect to utilise web-based learning as part of your independent learning and research.

This module may be delivered full-time on a block delivery basis by West Cheshire College.
