Module Learning Strategies
Lectures will form the main teaching activity with supporting problem-based tutorials. Design case studies will be used where applicable.
Integral with the classroom based activities are laboratory exercises designed to assist in the learning process, that is to develop knowledge and understanding by consolidating the principles delivered in class and to develop practical and written communications skills appropriate to students chosen vocation. The total learning time is 150 hrs comprising 36 hrs contact time (24 hours lecture, 12 hours laboratory) and 114 hrs independent study.
Module Indicative Content
Topics covered include:
Fluid definitions, Pascals law, fluid static law, pressure movement, fluid forces, Bernolli equation, continuity equation, fluid fraction, the Moody Diagram, fluid momentum.
Module Additional Assessment Details
One 2 hour examination (50%) which will assess Learning Outcomes 1 - 4.
One in-course assessment on laboratory exercises (50%) which will assess Learning Outcomes 1-4.
