100% in course assessment to include a group design project which will involve individual work in computer aided design and design analysis. (Learning Outcomes 1-3)
Module Indicative Content
Design Methodologies to include research for design, production of product design specification (PDS), concept screening, testing and selection processes, FMEA, and Design for X.
Computer based 3D modelling - Understanding parametric relationships, Assembly, Tolerances, Mechanisms. Creation of assembly drawings from 3D models.
Analysis of concept designs - using force analysis software and fluid and thermodynamic analysis where appropriate.
Analysis of design and selection of materials and processes.
Realisation via model / mock-up / prototype / working simulation
Module Learning Strategies
Lectures to introduce design methodologies and material selection. Tutorials to develop skills in CAD and material and process selection methodologies. Student centred learning to apply techniques to group design project work. 1:n 1:20
