Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
16 x 1.5 hour sessions incorporating lectures, workshops and joint supervisory tutorials. Self tuition through study packs and access to tutor and work-based guidance. It is expected that in-house mentoring will facilitate the learning environment. Additionally you can expect to utilise web-based learning as part of your independent learning and research.
Module Indicative Content
The module gives the students the opportunity to develop their technology skills, knowledge and concepts, at a level appropriate to their Foundation Degree programme of study, in the context of a real technology scenario. Project will be 'industry-based, being delivered from the student's place of employment. Projects should:
- Have technology content.
- Utilise material from more than one module of study.
- Involve elements of work which are not part of the students normal employment duties.
- Involve project management, evaluation and communication.

Subject to these requirements, projects will be great variety, but will typically include at least one of the following:
- Design, construction and testing of prototype equipment.
- Implementation of a technology system, involving hardware and/or software.
- New and/or modified usage of existing equipment or system.
- Review and evaluation/report of specified technology practice or system.
- Commissioning a piece of equipment and writing manual and/or instructing others.

An initial project proposal - (2 A4 pages) - (Learning Outcomes 3, 4 ) 5%
In-course assessment (progress report (4 A4 Pages), presentation and an interview) - (Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and 3) 15%
Final Project Report - (5000 - 6000 words) - (Learning Outcomes 1, 2, and 3) 50%
An oral presentation and an interview - (Learning Outcomes 1 and 2) 30%
