Module Special Admissions Requirements
Prior study of CE20009-4 Mechanical Fundamentals or equivalent.
Module Indicative Content
Fluids
Design characteristics of pumps and fans, torque, head, flow rate, machine efficiency, NPSH (net positive suction head). Detailed fluid conduit design, characteristic curves and machine/system matching, multiple machine arrangements, modelling of fluid systems.

Mechanics
Biaxial Stress Fields. axisymmetric stress analysis, yield criteria, strain energy methods, buckling of struts, force damped vibration of single degree of freedom systems, torsional vibration, force transmissibility, balancing of rotating and reciprocating masses, graphical Determination of principle stress and strains.

100% coursework consisting of:-
An examination of length 2 hours weighted at 50% (learning outcomes 1 and 2)
A laboratory based assignment length 1500 words weighted at 50% (learning outcome 1)
