ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Specific assessments will be contextualised to reflect the context of relevant practical workplace or employer delivery
Written: (LO 1,2,4)
In this assessment, students will work on a project looking at integrated design and construction information data from multiple sources. They will discuss the importance of defining standards to create and manage construction drawings, and evaluate the importance of consistent and accurate information in regard to creating construction drawings for a complex project. They will analyse how a consistent set of standards can drive greater efficiencies throughout a project .
Practical: (LO 3)
In this assessment students will create a set of construction documents for a complex building project using defined standards. They will utilise both BIM and CAD methodology to ensure construction information packages are correct and clear for a complex project, and analyse the difference between CAD and BIM systems in the creation of design and construction information for a given project. From this they will evaluate the advantages of using a BIM-based system to create complex construction information.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The aim of this module is to provide students with an in-depth consideration of how construction information is created, managed, and shared throughout the lifecycle of a built asset.
In addition to understanding the types of information required for complex projects, students will explore the development and use of standards to ensure consistency and interoperability of data captured and shared, both in a geometric and non-geometric fashion.
Through this module students will engage in the way’s construction drawing and detailing have evolved and will be able to gain knowledge and skills in documenting projects using modern methods and technologies.
Students will also produce drawings in 2D and 3D using different drawing perspectives in line with source information.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
A package of lectures and practical sessions involving CAD software (TBC)
Lectures will introduce key topics and concepts with tutor-assisted practical sessions. In the practical sessions you will get hands-on experience of the principles taught in the lectures. Academic learning will be achieved through reading around the subject area. Module tutors will suggest useful texts, though many others will be suitable and can be found in our e-library. If you require help understanding any of the concepts, you may contact your module tutor for assistance.
