Specific assessments will be contextualised to reflect the context of relevant practical workplace or employer delivery
Written Proposal (LO1, LO2)
In this assessment students will explain the documentation required to formulate a tender for a major project
and, Compare the use of specifications and bills of quantities as tendering methods used for a privately funded project. Included within this they will also compare the types of tendering available for a design and build project.
Written Project (LO3, LO4)
In this assessment students will explain the factors that determine the selection of an estimating technique
And produce an estimate for a given work activity in relation to a major project.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module aims to provide students with the appropriate knowledge to allow them to select a procurement route and an appropriate tendering method in the awarding of a project to a main contractor.
Students will gain knowledge of how to prepare a tender package in procuring a contractor for a client’s work. Many different procurement methods are available to achieve this: from open to closed systems.
Topics included within this module are:
• tendering constraints and information,
• the documentation needed to send out a tender,
• the factors that affect procurement,
• the procurement methods that can be used to select a contractor.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
A package of lectures and practical sessions:
Lectures will introduce key topics and concepts with tutor-assisted practical sessions. In the practical sessions you will get hands-on experience of the principles taught in the lectures. Academic learning will be achieved through reading around the subject area. Module tutors will suggest useful texts, though many others will be suitable and can be found in our e-library.
