Module Additional Assessment Details
There will be 2 assessment areas which may be combined into a single integrated assessment.
1. (50%) The students will be set a design project to be completed using the CAD techniques they have learnt. The process they have undertaken will be documented in a report and submitted along with electronic versions of CAD files. (Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and 3)
2. (50%) The students will be set a manufacturing project to be completed using the techniques they have learnt. The process they have undertaken will be documented in a report and submitted along with electronic versions of any files. (Learning Outcomes 4 and 5)

Balancing studies will be applied to ensure experience of other 3D modelling systems is in line with University systems

Advanced Three dimensional modelling
Advanced 3D modelling functions
Creation of mould tools from 3D components
Mould filling simulation
Use of dimensional tolerances in CAD
Assembling components for mechanism analysis
Animating mechanism movement
CNC machining
Calculation of part programs for 3 Axis milling
CNC machine simulation
CNC program creation
Rapid Prototyping
Research RP methods (SLA, FDM, SLS etc)
Produce component using a rapid prototyping method
Module Learning Strategies
The majority of this course is computer laboratory based (24 hours). This will be supported by lectures, demonstrations (12 hours) and visits as required.
