Module Learning Strategies
A limited amount of lectures (12 hours) (in order to introduce the subject and to guide the student) will be enhanced by the provision of detailed information and sources of information. Students will be encouraged to work in teams in order to analyse the case study. This will aim to provide the experience necessary to achieve the learning outcomes of the module.
Tutorial sessions (12 hours), as appropriate will support the teaching of specific techniques.
Module Indicative Content
Systems approach to problem solving in manufacturing. Introduction to Manufacturing Systems engineering and modern philosophies.
Types of systems and plant layout.
Comparative appraisals of different systems.
Introduction to planning and control methodologies and tools applicable to manufacturing organisations including; demand management, master production, scheduling, capacity planning, manufacturing resource planning, enterprise resource planning, shop floor control and inventory management.
Module Additional Assessment Details
An assignment (case study analysis) maximum 3,000 words weighted at 100%, Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4.
