Module Indicative Content
1. Principles of steam generation, Steam turbines, Condensers, Feed pumps, Steam Boilers.
2. Ideal power generation cycles, Caront Principle, isentropic processes.
3. Modifications to ideal cycles to improve efficiency.
4. Ideal gas turbine cycles, Brayton cycle.
5. Improved gas turbine cycles, multi compression, multi expansion and heat recovery cycles.
6. Cogeneration (CHP) plants, Electricity and Thermal Energy plants.
Module Additional Assessment Details
1 assignment based on a field trip to a power station maximum 2000 words (30%) which will assess Learning Outcome 4.
1 examination, 2 hours (70%) which will assess Learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3.
