Module Learning Strategies
These learning strategies will occupy your time:
- Directed reading and learning, supplemented by seminar attendance.
- Information gathering (Internet, books, technical articles, company literature etc).
- Discussions with experts in Industry and University.
- Use of existing software packages (business, word-processing, database, project scheduling etc).
- Report writing, incl. feedback on drafts.
- Preparation of oral presentation.
- Presentation and defence of work at seminar.
This module may also be taken as distance learning via the VLE. In this case the oral presentation can be via video-conferencing methods.

Module Indicative Content
Study Skills: Listening, comprehension, note taking, flexible and skim reading, procrastination, time management, setting goals, group study, communication, report writing, referencing and cross referencing, ICT Skills, study life balance, use of sources.
Exposure to a range of project management techniques, which will enable the student to successfully manage complex science / technical based research projects.
Application of a range of project management techniques to formulate a comprehensive work plan for the student's entire course.
Exposure to a broad range of fundamental technical issues which underpin the chosen field of study.
Use of oral, written, and electronic communication to find information and to explain, appraise, debate and present complex issues relating to (1) project management and (2) the technical literature within the chosen field of study.
Module Additional Assessment Details
100% in course using a portfolio of work undertaken within the module. The portfolio will cover the specific items raised in the indicative content and will address the 4 learning outcomes. It is expected that the portfolio could contain elements from the following: a study plan for the entire length of the award; a literature review; a sample project plan; a formal poster presentation.
