Module Additional Assessment Details
Portfolio of 5 practical assignments (including an assignment logbook) - each of the 5 asssessments weighted at 14%. [Learning Outcomes 1,2]
A report lenght 2,000 words, weighted at 30%. [Learning Outcome 3].
Due to the professional nature of the medical illustration programme, it is necessary for all components of assessment to be passed as learners must have a rigorous understanding and working knowledge of each aspect of the course to allow them to become registered by the Health Professions Council. And, as such, no internal compensation should be allowed on these modules.

Module Indicative Content
This module covers the specialist graphic design skills that a medical illustrator needs, along with a knowledge and understanding of the issues involved in working with clients and in interpreting professional briefs. You will learn how to use a range of illustrative techniques in the communication of clinical, medical and anatomical information to specified audiences. You will consider the implications of the different contexts within which illustrations are used, and learn to use your judgement as to the choice of methodology appropriate to particular media, contexts and individual client requirements. Specific techniques covered include: line and half-tone illustrations, colour and photographically generated illustrations and the principles of effective web page and brochure design.
Module Learning Strategies
This module is delivered by distance learning, which means that you will engage in independent study, supported by your workplace supervisor.
You will carry out a series of practical assignments, each of which covers a specific area of professional practice. You will document the thoughts, decisions and analyses that inform this work, in an assignment logbook. You will also write a report on the issues surrounding successful visual communication in a healthcare context, reflecting on the most appropriate means for fulfilling a specific client brief.
