Module Indicative Content
Students will be introduced to a wide range of alternative and independent film theory and practice. This will involve lectures/seminar sessions on alternative film production outside mainstream, western film, specifically in producing American Independent Cinema, cult cinema, film as philosophy/art-house productions, avant-garde cinema, as well as sessions with independent producers and directors in relevant independent practice.

An Essay of 3,500 words [Learning Outcomes 1-6]
Learning outcome 5 will be assessed by essay on specificity of content.

Module Learning Strategies
Preparation of reading and research prior to sessions. Seminar discussions and analysis of text-based materials. Reflection and evaluation of both written, verbal and text materials within seminar discussions. Also develop greater knowledge surrounding concept of 'alternativity' in relation to film culture.
Class contact time of two hours per week of seminars and lectures.
