Effective midwifery practice: integrating theory to midwifery practice in the assessment of maternal and fetal needs /well-being; care and management during childbirth encompassing social, cultural and physical perspectives;
contemporary issues associated with childbirth reflecting equality and diversity; anatomy and physiology of body organs/systems related to midwifery clinical skills; clinical nursing and midwifery skills e.g. Vital signs

Professional, legal and ethical practice: practice in accordance with NMC standards and legal and ethical requirements; safeguarding issues; identifying unsafe practice and responding appropriately; mandatory requirements (e.g. fire, infection control, basic life support; theory and practice of moving and handling) including Informatics in Clinical Education; principles of medicine management, drug calculation and pharmacology

Developing the individual midwife and others: interpersonal and communication skills including the art of midwifery in involving women in their care; academic study skills

Achieving care through evaluation and research: Introduction to Information Technology, research skills and Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI); application of evidence to practice; introduction to skills of reflection
Assessment Details
Portfolio of mandatory training to support midwifery practice requirements. Weighting 10% (Learning outcome 2)
Assessment of practice documentation demonstrating achievement of practice outcomes. Weighting 90% (Learning outcome 1 & 3)
Both elements of assessment must be passed
