An essay discussing evidence - based midwifery care (Learning outcomes 2 and 3)
A poster presentation related to health and childbirth accompanied with written rationale and background to the work presented on the poster. (Discussion 15mins) (Learning outcomes 1 and 3)
Formative assessment:

Group discussions
Formative advice and feedback on draft work
Information about poster presentation, design and publisher software will be provided.
All elements of assessment must be passed

Module Indicative Content
Anatomy and physiology: anatomy and physiology of the major body systems and the physiological changes that occur during pregnancy, childbirth, the puerperium and in the neonate.
Professional, legal and ethical issues: introduction to the professional framework that underpins normal midwifery practice including the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) rules, standards and guidelines; Government reports; introduction to the law, legal system and Human Rights Act; introduction to ethics and ethical theories; ethical principles - beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, paternalism, justice; ethical issues of screening.
Evidence based practice: evidence - based midwifery practice relating to provision of normal ante-partum, intra-partum, post-partum and neonatal care to meet the individual needs of women in a diverse society.
Multi-disciplinary / inter-professional working: the multi disciplinary team and other agencies, principles of effective working with a wide range of professionals involved in delivery of care to women and their families.
