Structure and organisation of care delivery in contemporary UK society
Initial midwifery assessment

Sociology and psycho- emotional health in contemporary UK society
Spirituality within the childbearing context, including the influence of cultural and religious values and beliefs
Introduction to genetics and genomics (including epigenetics) related to midwifery practice
Normal physiology over the reproductive lifespan (including menstruation and the ovarian cycle)
Physiological changes occurring to the mother during the childbirth continuum
Anatomy and physiology of the male reproductive system
Fertiliszation and fetal development through pregnancy, labour and birth
BFI: Breast feeding and health.

The role of the midwife in Aassessment, planning, implementing and evaluating care of the neonate and working in partnership with parent(s), care givers and wider family and community units.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
.The assessment will be a multiple choice examination that will address all content within the module and allow students to meet Learning Outcomes 1-4.
This assessment must be successfully passed at a minimum of 40% to complete this module.

This module introduces you to the concept of holistic health and wellbeing across¿a woman’s¿reproductive lifespan, including the¿fetus¿and neonate¿in¿the¿context of contemporary midwifery care in the UK and is closely linked to the other Level 4 modules providing a foundation for midwifery practice.¿¿During the module you will explore¿the physiological processes¿in addition to environmental, socio-cultural,¿psycho-emotional and spiritual¿influences on health.¿This module¿introduces you to¿the role¿of the midwife in the assessment of¿maternal,¿fetal¿and neonatal health, identifying the factors influencing these.¿¿
As an autonomous practitioner the midwife works in collaboration with women and multidisciplinary colleagues in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care. The knowledge and insight you will gain during this module will provide you with a sound foundation for appreciation of the midwife’s role in quality care provision.¿¿¿This¿module lays the foundation of your understanding of the professional midwife as a safe and effective¿practitioner¿with the ability to provide universal care to women and neonates.
