Module Indicative Content
Maternal, fetal and neonatal assessment: specialised investigations and screening tests.
Care in a safe environment: risk assessment, clinical governance and supervision of midwives
Altered physiology during childbearing: cause effects and midwifery management.
Professional, legal and ethical issues in midwifery care, government reports, NHS agencies, national / professional guidelines.
Parenting: patterns, psychological, cultural, sociological, educational needs.
Patterns of midwifery care in and out of NHS: independent midwifery practice.
Key skills: communication, IT, working with others, learning, problem solving, employability
Module Additional Assessment Details
A 2,500 word needs - based case study on a client of choice (Learning outcomes 1 - 4).
Achievement of clinical practice outcomes - Pass / Fail
Both elements of assessment must be passed.

Formative advice / feedback will be given on information presented by students during the module.
Students will be continuously assessed by mentors for achievement of clinical placement outcomes
