A portfolio made up of the following elements:
Assessment of practice documentation demonstrating achievement of practice outcomes - 10% (Learning outcome 3)
Viva voce examination - 30 minutes - 45% (Learning outcome 4)
Documentary evidence of reflection and learning (maximum 3000 words) - 45% (Learning outcomes 1, 2)
Formative assessment:
Group and individual tutorials
Group discussions
Formative advice and feedback
Midwife mentor - ongoing achievement record
All elements of assessment must be passed
Module Indicative Content
Anatomy and physiology: revision of fetus, fetal skull, pelvis and labour
Professional, Legal and Ethical Issues: antenatal screening, CNST, report writing
Evidence based practice: principles of drug administration, pharmacology, perineal repair, principles of elimination and management, CPR, principles of phlebotomy and intravenous therapy, blood transfusion, perioperative skills, wound management, management of restricted mobility, principles of infection control
Multidisciplinary/interprofessional working: clinical governance, supervision of midwifery, domestic violence
International Midwifery: United Nations; millennium development goals
World health reports; the role of the WHO: Making pregnancy safer; Safe Motherhood Initiative, global maternal, neonatal and perinatal mortality; Maternal newborn health and poverty; The International Confederation of Midwives; European Forum of National Nursing and Midwifery Associations
