Enrolment on the BSc (Hons) Midwifery Practice Award
Assessment Details
Portfolio of mandatory training to support midwifery practice requirements. Weighting 10% (Learning outcome 2)

Assessment of practice documentation demonstrating achievement of practice outcomes weighting 90% (Learning outcome 1 & 3)
Both elements of assessment must be passed

Indicative Content
Effective midwifery practice: nursing and midwifery clinical skills (observation, examination and assessment, communication and caring skills); anatomy and physiology of body organs/systems underpinning clinical skills; principles of drug administration and pharmacology relating to midwifery care; parent education and skills; Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI). Electronic fetal monitoring

Professional, legal and ethical practice: NMC standards, ethical and legal frameworks; mandatory requirements including NHS initiatives (Making Every Contact Count); safeguarding issues; identifying unsafe practice and responding appropriately; working collaboratively in context of different healthcare settings

Developing the individual midwife and others: interpersonal and communication skills when working in partnerships with women and their families; reflection on own practice and development

Achieving care through evaluation and research: developing Information Technology and academic study skills; application of research evidence to practice when working within partnersh
