Module Indicative Content
Anatomy and physiology: anatomy and physiology applied to midwifery practice

Professional, Legal and Ethical Issues: accountability case studies; whistle-blowing in clinical practice; the right to reproduce, assisted conception; abortion - legal issues; euthanasia, advanced directives; legal and ethical issues relating to research

Evidence based practice: antenatal care and screening, assessment, management of first, second and third stages of labour, postnatal care, public health and health promotion/screening, care of childbearing women in diverse and changing society. Local, national policies, standards and initiatives; the hierarchy of evidence in health care, research designs; advanced searching skills, introduction to skills of critical appraisal

Multidisciplinary/interprofessional working: role and responsibilities of the midwife and multiprofessional team in meeting the needs of a diverse and changing society
