INDICATIVE CONTENT

Self management – Emotional intelligence and strength based strategies¿

Health and Safety:
Moving and handling
Adult Resuscitation
Neonatal resuscitation
Medicines management and administration including safe medicate
Maternal Health and Safety
Perineal management, episiotomy, 3rd and 4th degree trauma, maternal morbidities.
Professional debriefing, reflection and governance

Complex Care:
Cannulation and Intra venous infusion
Fetal wellbeing and electronic fetal monitoring and interpretation
Complex intrapartum care
Gestational Hypertension, Pre-eclampsia and Eclampsia
Management of Epidural
Diabetes care

Altered Health:
Blood transfusion
ECG
Insertion, management and removal of oral/nasal/gastric tubes
Removal of: Drains, sutures, clips, wound dressings/colostomy care
Fluid balance
Blood glucose/ Neurological vital signs
Hypo/hyper-thermic regulation
Oxygen therapy
IV pumps

Complete a practice reflective account covering assessing needs and planning care

This assessment must be successfully passed at a minimum of 40% to complete this module.

WEB INFORMATION
This module will continue to build on your clinical skills and theoretical knowledge learnt in year 1. You will continue to develop as a skilled midwife practitioner and the concept of high- risk midwifery care will be introduced during this year. We will explore obstetric emergencies and how these can be managed effectively, focusing on teamwork, interprofessional working and holistic care. This module will include placements a variety of midwifery settings and incorporate a medical and surgical placement to support your learning in relating theory to practice. During the year you will develop your competencies surrounding core aspects of general care.

SPECIAL ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Must be enrolled on Bachelor of Midwifery (Hons) and achieve the University regulation and compliance requirements for progression to Level 5
