Module Indicative Content
Anatomy and physiology: revision of fetus, fetal scalp, skull and internal structures, pelvis, mechanisms of labour.
Professional, legal and ethical issues: Legislation, Ethical issues, Clinical supervision, Handling complaints, PREP. Mentorship, Interview technique.
Evidence-based practice: Caseload: case discussion, Antenatal care and practice skills (Review of booking history, genetics, genetic pedigrees, role of geneticist screening issues, Parent education)
Midwifery practice issues and skills during labour: Malpresentation and malposition - care and management, CTG workshop, Obstetric emergency drills
Peri-operative care in midwifery, PO2 monitoring, IVI care, blood transfusion
Neonatal practice: Care of sick/preterm infant, Feeding, Metabolic disorders
Perinatal death: Communication, Stillbirth, Fetal abnormality, Support of families
Medical equipment: hazards, care and management
Multi-disciplinary / inter-professional working:
Referral to and liaison with other care professionals, Client discharge, Case conferences.
Female genital mutilation
Obstetric fistula

Assessment of practice documentation demonstrating achievement of practice outcomes - weighted at 10% (addressing LO 3)
Viva voce examination - 30 minutes - weighted at 90% (addressing LO's 1, 2 and 4)
