The project will be in the form of an extended literature search and review relating to the management and midwifery care of women with a complication of pregnancy from the module content.

Anatomy and physiology: anatomy and physiology applied to complications of pregnancy

Professional, Legal and Ethical Issues: current ethical issues, professional misconduct, surrogacy, genetic engineering

Evidence based practice: problems of pregnancy, hypertensive disorders, multiple pregnancy, specialised fetal investigations, prolonged pregnancy and disorders of uterine action, malpositions of the occiput and malpresentations, operative deliveries, midwifery and obstetric emergencies, complications of the puerperium, recognising the ill baby, neonatal respiratory problems, trauma during birth, congenital abnormalities, jaundice and infection, metabolic problems, international midwifery and global perspectives; critical appraisal skills for different research designs, interpretation of common statistics used in research; application of research into practice; research governance; project management

Multidisciplinary/interprofessional working: maternal mortality and morbidity, supervision of midwives, clinical governance, risk management
