Viva voce examination - 30 minutes informed by portfolio evidence weighted at 90% (Learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3)
Assessment of practice documentation demonstrating achievement of practice outcomes weighting 10% (Learning outcome 4)
Both elements of assessment must be passed

Indicative Content
Effective midwifery practice: midwifery clinical skills; principles of drug administration and pharmacology relating to midwifery care; introduction to parent education and skills; introduction and application of Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI)
Professional, legal and ethical practice: NMC standards, ethical and legal frameworks; mandatory requirements including NHS initiatives (Making Every Contact Count); safeguarding issues; identifying unsafe practice and acting appropriately; working collaboratively in context of maternity settings
Developing the individual midwife and others: effective interpersonal and communication skills when working in partnerships with women and their families; effective use of the framework for the statutory supervision of midwives applied to practice; reflection on own practice and development
Achieving care through evaluation and research: developing Information Technology and academic study skills; application of research evidence to practice when working within midwifery practice
