Effective midwifery practice: role of the midwife in promoting neonatal health and wellbeing; developing and evaluating knowledge of public health relating to neonatal care; theory of neonatal examination; anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the neonate; clinical skills relating to the examination and care of the neonate; care and management of the sick neonate (including congenital disorders and birth defects); family's needs reflecting social and cultural perspectives; feeding requirements of preterm and extremely preterm infant; Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI); neonatal resuscitation; national strategic contemporary documents
Professional, legal and ethical practice: practice in accordance with NMC standards, professional, legal and ethical frameworks relating to neonatal health; theory in relation to safeguarding issues and the neonate
Developing the individual midwife and others: communication skills in dealing with mothers and their families' with a sick neonate; effective collaborative and multiagency working in relation to neonatal care
