Module Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to enable you to develop your skills of inspection, auscultation and palpation in relation to the neonatal examination. To enable you to develop these skills, the following topics will be explored - principles of physical assessment of the neonate, evaluating and recording the neonatal history and examination, assessment of major systems in the neonate. Practical experience will be gained in your clinical areas.
Module Additional Assessment Details
An Essay of 3500 words, (critically analyse and reflect) discussing and reflecting on the experience of examining neonates. Students must adhere to the Faculty of Health Sciences policy on confidentiality and ethical issues in academic practice and learning (addressing LO's 2 and 3)
Clinical practice assessments - A total of 35 neonatal examinations must be undertaken, 15 of which must be supervised. Clinical competence will be assessed by the clinical supervisor as PASS/FAIL. Clinical practice assessments must be successfully completed prior to submission of the summative assignment. (addressing LO 1)
Both elements must be passed to successfully complete the module.
