Day One: Introduction to Contraception and Sexual Health
- Contemporary issues in sexual health
- Promoting sexual health
- Raising issues with clients
- Awareness of the needs of clients, e.g. religion, culture, ethnicity and vulnerability
- Legal aspects of clinical practice

Day Two: Decision making, choice and sexual health promotion
- Sexuality, Options and choice
- Unintended Pregnancy
- The evidence base for sexual health promotion

Day Three: Hormonal Contraception and its application
- Fertility and managing contraception appropriate to the individual

Day Four: Long Acting Reversible Contraception
- Patient Group Directives
- Teaching methods and strategies

Day Five: Preparation for practice and assessment
- The importance and significance of taking a full client history.
- Skills practice

Day Six: Sexually shared infection - screening, management, treatment and prevention
- Sexual Health and Sexual Ill Health

Day Seven: New developments in contraception and sexual health services and its provision.
- New roles and new ways of working.
- Demographics and trends in sexual health (Nationally and internationally)
- Managing services
Module Additional Assessment Details
There are three Summative assessment elements to the Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) course, which include:
Placement Portfolio
- Contraception and sexual health clinical competences Pass/Fail
(Contributes to meeting LO's 1, 2, 3 and 4)

- Case Study: 3,000 word case study reflecting on the care given to a client
(Contributes to meeting LO's 1 and 5)

Written Examination 1 hour 30 minutes Short answer, multiple choice questions designed as an electronic assessment tool. This also includes two short video scenarios with the possibility of more than one outcome. Pass/Fail
(Contributes to meeting LO 1)

All of the three elements of assessment must be passed in order to pass the module.

Formative assessment / feedback:
will be provided by course tutors throughout the duration of the module. Thus enabling students to build on their existing skills and knowledge, and continue to develop their understanding, confidence and practical abilities over the entirety of the module
Module Learning Strategies
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (48 hours)
The taught element of the module will incorporate 48 hours of direct contact time, including:
42 hours lecture, group work, discussions
6 hours tutorials

Guided Independent Study: (252 hours)
216 hours of self directed study including portfolio compilation and examination revision

Placement:
36 hours supervised clinical practice

Module Special Admissions Requirements
- Hold current NMC registration
- Working in an appropriate clinical setting and involved in the routine contraceptive and sexual health assessment, treatment and/or health promotion.
- Able to commit to at least 90 per cent of the attendance to the theory component of five days and 100 per cent of the practical sessions.
- Minimum of one year post registration experience.
- Must have evidence of passing the Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Health E learning modules 1-18
- It is recommended that the student has prior study experience at a minimum of Level 5 (Diploma level)
