Module Indicative Content
Effective midwifery practice: anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology related to complications of pregnancy; physiology and pathophysiology related to complications of pregnancy; complex conditions of childbirth; complex conditions of childbirth; provision of midwifery care and support based on best evidence and clinical judgement; clinical governance & risk management; preparation of lead carer in normal pregnancies; providing care for women who have suffered pregnancy loss; application and evaluation related to Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI); national strategic contemporary documents; context of midwifery practice locally, national and internationally; clinical skills and emergency skill drills relating to midwifery practice; enhanced parent education skills, maternal mortality and morbidity; international midwifery and global perspectives; evaluating public health initiatives

Professional, legal and ethical practice: practice in accordance with NMC standards within the limitations of the individual's own competence, knowledge and sphere of professional practice; practice relating to managing and prioritising competing demands; mandatory requirements; safeguarding issues, identifying unsafe practice and responding appropriately; workforce and employment issues; statutory supervision of midwives; role of the midwife and collaborative working in the 21st century; medicine management in relation to midwifery practice

ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
40 minute Seminar Presentation - weighting 45% (Learning outcomes 1 and 2)
1000 word critical review of the presentation

Viva voce examination - 40 minutes informed by portfolio evidence weighted at 45% (Learning outcome 1, 2 and 3)

Assessment of practice documentation demonstrating achievement of practice outcomes weighting 10% (Learning outcome 4)
