Module Details
Module Indicative Content
This module is designed to introduce students to the techniques and methods of research. The module will also enable students to make effective use of the library, and technological resources, both on and off campus as learning resources.

In addition the module will further develop communication skills, e.g. oral, report writing, essay writing and developing lines of argument, formal presentation, group working, use of Excel and presentation of qualitative and quantitative data.

The module will focus specifically on research into an area of business culture, operations or service as in response to environmental change.

This will module will also provide opportunity for personal and/or professional development.
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy requires you to commit to 300 learning hours (including assessment). This will consist of guided independent learning with tutor support and supervision on a negotiated basis. There will be the opportunity to meet your tutor to discuss aspects of your project in up to 3 short one-to-one meetings.

The opportunity to develop and demonstrate your communication skills, most specifically the group presentation, will be accommodated during a short residential. IN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES the presentation will be arranged after the residential ONLY where non attendance is unavoidable (extenuating circumstances must be submitted and approved to facilitate this)

Module Additional Assessment Details
1. Group Presentation (15 minutes) (Tests Learning Outcome 1) 25%
2. Proposal (individual) 1000 words + references 25%
(Tests Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3 & 4)
3. Report (individual) 2500 words + references 50%
(Tests Learning Outcomes 1, 3, 4 % 5)

Students must achieve a minimum 40% pass grade in the Report component of the assessment.
Module Special Admissions Requirements
This module can only be taken by students enrolled on the HNC.
