1. Laboratory Expt: routing and monitoring of audio through a mixing desk. (Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and 3)
2. Create music using a virtual studio environment, including report (Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and 8)
3. Recording MIDI and audio in a studio environment, including presentation and report (Learning Outcomes 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8)

Module Indicative Content
You will learn how to process digital audio using a suitable pc recording software package.
You will be shown how to apply Effects and Equalisation to audio and the effect that this has on the processing and stability of the pc.
You will be taught how to route audio through a conventional mixing desk and shown how outboard equipment can be linked in a virtual studio environment.
You will be introduced to Musical Instrument Digital Interface ( MIDI ) Technology. You will meet the different formats of MIDI, MIDI sequencing and Digital Audio Techniques, and apply these to musical arrangements.
You will be introduced to the principles of audio recording utilising sound editing software.
Sound capture; microphones, pick-ups, amplification, S.M.P.T.E, midi time code.
Module Learning Strategies
3 hours per week. The module is delivered using a mixture of lectures, tutorials, demonstrations and hands-on practical work in groups of 20 students.
