Module Details
Module Indicative Content
You will learn how to capture, create and process digital audio using various digital audio workstations.
You will be shown how to apply audio effects, dynamics processors and equalisation to digital audio.
You will be shown how to route audio in both digital and analogue domains through the use of convential mixing desks, and the virtual studio environment.
You will be introduced to MIDI Technology and the different formats of MIDI data transfer. You will be introduced to MIDI sequencing and effects, and will be shown how to apply these to musical arrangements within a DAW.
You will be introduced to the fundamental principals of audio recording within a studio environment, utilising suitable microphones and digital audio recording facilities.

100% in-course assessment.

1. Create a piece of music using virtual studio technology, including presentation and report. (Learning Outcomes 3, 5, 6 and 7)
2. Create a piece of music utilising the studio environment, including interview and report (Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7)

Module Learning Strategies
3 hours per week lecture/practical over 12 weeks in groups of 20.
Technical skills instruction. 3 hours in total (groups of 4) before beginning studio work.
0.5 hours per week drop-in surgery.
