INDICATIVE CONTENT
Key cultural terms and concepts. Exploration of cultural theorists such as (but not exclusively):
Adorno, Benjamin, Marcuse, Hall, Whitely, O’Brien, Street, Garratt, Shuker, Frith, Leonard, Denora, Middleton, Hebdidge, Stokes, Chomsky, Scruton. Globalisation and its affects upon sound design, Nationalism, Subcultures, Social and Economic influences upon film and radio genres, Ethnicity, gender and sexuality within sound design.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Cultural Analysis Essay – students will write an essay from a pre-defined set of questions which will encourage them to explore a specific area of sound design of their choice and utilise the cultural theories which have been discussed in order to interrogate, explain and contextualise how the creation of their chosen sound design has influenced and been influenced by society at large.
