Module Learning Strategies
3 hours per week. Lectures and interactive laboratory/demonstration sessions.
(1:n)1 (1:20)2
Module Additional Assessment Details
Assessment is by a log-book (3000 words) of design work assessing learning outcomes 1 and 3. This is assessed in conjunction with a 20 minute interview and practical demonstration assessing learning outcome 2.
Module Indicative Content
The module aims to provide music technology students with a deeper understanding of studio electronics. Students will design and test advanced electronic circuitry for analogue equipment. Fault finding in audio equipment will be covered, as will advanced specification interpretation and measurement techniques. Factors affecting the warmness of analogue circuitry and the design of circuits with even harmonic distortion will be discussed.
Module Special Admissions Requirements
A good understanding of the application and operation of analogue equipment used for sound recording. Ideally students should have studied an introductory module in electronics at undergraduate level or have relevant previous experience.
Module Resources
D10 laboratory, PSpice, test work on a variety of audio equipment
