INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module engages the student in techniques and theory used in preserving and enhancing the quality of audio recordings. Digital and analogue audio systems are investigated from the recording system to final medium. Students investigate suitable software and hardware processors that are used in mastering. Best practice in producing high quality mastered audio is studied and reflected upon. Surround, multichannel and spatial audio formats are also explored. The following areas are covered:
1. Audio Processing and Mastering in Stereo and Multi-channel formats
2. Spatial audio, surround formats and high-definition audio
3. Loudness issues and standards
4. Best practice in audio production and processing
5. Audio Post-Production

Coursework – A Portfolio of Practical Work – 70% assessing learning outcomes 1 and 2
2000 word Essay – 30% assessing learning outcomes 2 and 3
LEARNING STRATEGIES
