INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module will introduce you to the area of venue design and will explain the importance of the brief and client communication. It will develop skills to communicate design in a 3D format using a range of media including CAD and hand sketching. You will develop research skills and understand how and where to seek information. You will be introduced to a range of sources of information and start to develop an image bank of material. Observational skills are vitally important and you will learn how to look at environments and pay attention to detail in order to evaluate elements that may impact on the client brief/design project You will take part in visits to different venues in order to determine what a designer should be looking for and how to systematically ensure all relevant features are recognised. All content will be related to live briefs and you will work with qualified professional designers from the first day.
Within this first module you will learn what is involved in developing a concept and how to produce a range of sketches that meet the client brief to demonstrate the concept developed. You will learn how to produce professional mood boards to industry standards reflecting concept development. Summative assessment will require the submission of concept sketches and mood boards for a specific brief along with explanations of your decision making.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Delivery is in studio through a range of live projects delivered by NDA tutors and supported by qualified designers. Information will be delivered through short input sessions individually, in small groups or to the whole cohort, followed immediately by further study and followed up with learning checks to determine understanding. You will work on projects to develop the requisite skills both individually and within small groups. You will also be involved in visits to develop observational and analytical skills.
