INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module underpins all the work that interior designers undertake, as it explains the legal requirements of any internal construction and space allocation. You will need to be able to estimate the capacity of a space for a client, based on function and be able to work out a range of requirements. This will include knowledge of air flow and requirements for heating and ventilation in a space. You will need to ensure that designs comply with hygiene regulations and understand the impact of fire regulations on the internal layout of a venue and associated product selection.

Building regulations encompass a vast area of knowledge that is constantly changing so you will need to know how to source local, national and international building regulations and be familiar with these regulations and their application to listed buildings and building with specific public functions. This will also draw from the Materials modules in terms of product compliance within specific environments. All designs will need to comply with the DDA with access and egress being considered. You will be exposed to all these regulations through the live projects in the design practice and you will experience the importance of these in avoiding litigation and on business success.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Delivery is in studio through a range of live projects delivered by NDA tutors and supported by qualified designers. Information will be delivered through short input sessions individually, in small groups or to the whole cohort, followed immediately by further study and followed up with learning checks to determine understanding. You will work on projects to develop the requisite skills both individually and within small groups. You will research regulations and apply these within the work environment.
