Learning Outcomes 1 & 2
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module will build on the previous knowledge and skills of the modules covered and will introduce you to a range of external speakers to provide detailed information on functional design for a range of venues. You will visit a range of venues with varied functions and discuss issues with the operator in order to understand what is required to underpin the design. You will consider and analyse usage, identifying pressure times, traffic flow, heating, ventilation, ambience required and other influencing factors and will work with a mentor to produce a design. The aim will be to improve functionality through effective and innovative design.

The focus will be on creativity that is both practical and innovative, providing clients with varied solutions. It requires a systematic approach to functionality that is embedded in a creative design and you will be encouraged to “think outside the box” and develop your problem solving skills.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Delivery is in studio through a range of live projects delivered by NDA tutors and supported by qualified designers. Information will be delivered through short input sessions individually, in small groups or to the whole cohort, followed immediately by further study and followed up with learning checks to determine understanding. You will work on projects to develop the requisite skills both individually and within small groups. You will also be involved in visits with operators to increase knowledge and experience of how to develop the brief to encapsulate all required functionality.
