Module Learning Strategies
Delivery is by distance learning with a comprehensive course handbook, examples of best practice, project templates and telephone and email support being available as necessary through our online VLE, individual and group tutorials, online forums and bulletin boards. Specialist knowledge will be delivered by a diverse team of staff and visiting guest lecturers with a variety of relevant backgrounds and experience. Relevant field trips may be employed at appropriate stages.

Module Indicative Content
This Module will encourage personal and professional development through the acquisition and implementation of new management skills. You will agree a work programme with your tutor that allows for personal development whilst completing key stage exercises that develop and demonstrate your depth of skills and knowledge within the context of managing an interior design practice. This Module will also cover the key issues relative to interior design project management.
To successfully manage an interior design practice, there are a number of key skills to develop, these include:
- Business planning
- Communication; public relations, human resources
- Financial management & forecasting
- Legal and professional
- Management functions; organisation, administration, marketing & advertising
- Management planning & project management
- Specifying
- Visual communication; drawing, model making
You will further explore the requirements of interior design practice management including tendering, presentation and licensing. The use of drawing and other visual presentation techniques will be considered as both problem solving and marketing tools. The Module builds on prior learning and introduces you to new concepts and skills such as developing a tender document and building supplier relationships.

- Networking
- Fitness for purpose testing
- Contractual issues
- Intellectual property
Module Additional Assessment Details
A Portfolio (PO1) of completed coursework. You will present for assessment a portfolio of work as outlined in the Module Information pack.
The portfolio is likely to include: written reports, financial spreadsheets and visual presentation to a professional standard. (Learning Outcomes 1,2 3 and 4)
