Module Indicative Content
This module aims to
- develop your knowledge and understanding of factors contributing to the healthy individual within community
- help you consider the contexts in which individuals make health decisions and choices.
In order to achieve this aim the module content focuses on the following areas:
Normal Anatomy and Physiology:
The anatomy and physiology of bodily systems, their organisation and achievement of homeostasis. Systems include cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, nervous, gastrointestinal, lymphatic and reproductive.
Normal Human Development:
Normal physical, psychological and social human development across the lifespan
Individual health and wellbeing
Introduction to the psychology and sociology of health
Key determinants of health
The impact of culture, religion and spiritual beliefs on health and illness
Gender, sexuality and health
Public Health and Health Promotion
Students will be introduced to the following:
The nature of community and it's impact on individual health
Contemporary public health and health policy
Models and concepts of health, illness and disability
Health assessment and health promotion with individuals and communities
Healthy lifestyles and indicators of unhealthy lifestyles

Module Additional Assessment Details
You will produce an identified workbook 1500 words comprising different sections related to learning outcomes 3 and 4 (50%)
An individual poster presentation or powerpoint presentation 1500 words (contributes to meeting LO's 1, 2 and 5) (50%)
Your presentation will describe how a key determinant of health could be affecting health within a chosen community. The presentation will identify potential opportunities for improving health within that community.
Formative assessment will include:
Review of progress with workbooks. Formative multiple choice tests.
Group seminars to review ongoing development for poster presentation.
