Module Indicative Content
This module aims to
- develop knowledge and understanding of factors contributing to the healthy individual
- identify the contexts in which individuals make life style behaviour choices and decisions
-develop an awareness and demonstrate the ability to discuss the determinants that influence life style behaviour choices and explore how these choices can be modified by individuals to improve health.
In order to achieve this aim the module content focuses on the following areas:
Normal Anatomy and Physiology:
The anatomy and physiology of body systems. Systems to be covered include cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, nervous, gastrointestinal, lymphatic and reproductive.
Individual health and wellbeing:
Introduction to the factors that affect health e.g. socio-economic, gender, sexuality, culture, religion and spiritual beliefs
Key determinants of health and the effects of health behaviours on the human body
Health Promotion:
Models and concepts of health, illness and disability
Healthy lifestyles and indicators of unhealthy lifestyles
Role of health promotion for individuals
