Module Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the concept of using evidence as a basis of health care delivery in the twenty first century. It supports students in identifying what impacts on health at different levels (from global to individual), and develop an understanding of the roles of the health and social care practitioners who work within this sphere. In order to achieve this student's will be expected to access evidence based material and identify how inter-professional working enhances the health of individuals and populations across the lifespan
- Introduction to research method and methodology, design and purpose
- Difference between evidence and research
- Using evidence to support practice
- The concept of inter-professional working
- Concepts of health, including models and approaches
- Understanding of what is health, wellbeing and ill health
- Overview of public health as a concept
- Overview of health promotion as a concept
- Identification of a wide range of issues that impact on health, considering this from a global, national and local perspective
- Identification of the roles other health professionals have - understanding the concept of the multi-disciplinary team and wider health community, the role of voluntary sector
- Consider the knowledge and skills that might be required by the health care professionals and the wider health and social care team to address health issues
- Identification of the services available in local areas to promote physical and mental health across the age continuum
- An introduction to Interprofessional Learning
- Demographics of health to include move to community based care, why do different populations have different health needs.

Which will be to produce a Health Profile - relating to one locality which provide and account of services supporting the locality for one particular population group, e.g. older people, young children, teenagers, prison populations, single parents, working age people, people with mental health difficulties, people with learning disabilities.
Formative Assessment:
Produce a typed summary on a maximum of one side of A4 of three different approaches to health promotion to support your assessment

Themes of health profiling, evidence based practice, the role of the nurse and interprofessional working are explored in relation to current health issues.
