Module Additional Assessment Details
60 minute MCQ weighted at 50% (assessing LO's 1 and 2)

Completion of a work based log (mapping to LO 4) incorporating details of health promotion observed and potential for health promotion activity to take place within the setting to include: pass/fail weighted at 0%

- 500 word reflective account pass/fail
- attendance record

Report of 1500 words weighted at 50% (assessing LO's 3 and 4) discussing:
- determinants of health and their relationship to an identified health behaviour
- a range of health promotion strategies (national and local) that are available to address this health behaviour
- the implementation of a selected health promotion approach/intervention, providing a rationale for the selected approach

all elements of assessment must be passed

Module Indicative Content
This module aims to
- develop knowledge and understanding of factors contributing to a healthy society and the health of its members.
- identify the contexts in which individuals make life style behaviour choices and decisions
- develop awareness and demonstrate the ability to discuss determinants that influence life style behaviour choices and explore how choices can be modified to improve/maintain health within the context of current health promotion policy and initiatives

In order to achieve these aims the module content focuses on the following areas:

Normal Anatomy and Physiology:
The anatomy and physiology of body systems including cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, nervous, gastrointestinal, reproductive and immune systems.
How the normal anatomy and physiology changes over the lifespan

Promoting Health and Wellness:
Interpretation of health related statistics and their relationship to health policies and initiatives.
Analysis of relevant health policies and initiatives, and their influence and impact upon societal and individual health and wellness.
Models and concepts of health, illness and disability.
Key determinants of health and influential factors for the health and wellness of society and its members.
Addressing health inequalities- the use of health initiatives.
Health promotion strategies- influences within society and approaches for working with groups and individuals.

You will undertake 70 hours of negotiated work experience.
